The 24th of May

In Canada this is the Victoria Day weekend. For a lot of people this is the weekend to open cottages, garden, party or just goof off. When I was a kid, there was a rhyme that went something like this: “The twenty-fourth of May/The Queen’s birthday/If we don’t get a holiday/We’ll all run away.” Not great poetry by any means, but it is something that I remember after all these years.  All of this is to honour a long dead queen who reigned longer than any British monarch. However, I believe that Queen Elizabeth is sneaking up the back stretch.

There are many things that one could be doing this May 24th weekend, but one thing is certain. If you are a believer, you will not be walking the streets of gold. It seems that Rev. Harold Camping is wrong yet again. It never fails to amaze me how hyped up people can get over such predictions. Do they not take to heart that only the Father in heaven knows the time of Jesus’ return?

I feel badly for those that were taken in by Camping, some selling everything they own in anticipation of Christ’s return. And although it is easy to do so, we really shouldn’t be making fun of these poor deluded souls. Instead we need to pray for them so that they would come to a true knowledge of God’s love for  them.

In the meantime, I hope that you have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

About faithfullyhis

My name is Charles Quail and I am a retired Baptist pastor who lives in Dunnville,a small town southeast of Hamilton, Ontario. I also write a weekly column for our local newspaper, The Sachem. It is a column that I have been writing for about eight years. I am married and have two grown daughters. My best buddy was my dog Max, who is now chasing bunny rabbits in sky. I miss him terribly. My reason for wanting to write a blog is friends have told me that this is the next logical step in my writing career. My hope and prayer is that many will be both challenged and blessed by what I write.
