Wrong Again

Harold Camping has said that he was wrong in his prediction that the world would end on May 21st 2011. He now says that the actual date is October 21st 2011. Apparently he realised that the real date of the coming Apocalypse is actually in five months time. Camping and his wife were so disappointed the Apocalypse didn’t happen that they took refuge in a motel room, probably to try to figure out what he is going to say to his followers and to the rest of the world.

He says that he is five months off in his calculations. My question to him would be what are you going to say on October 21st when the church is still here? It is more than likely that he’ll have egg on his face yet again. And I can’t help but wonder about the people who believed in this “prophecy”.

Will people believe him yet again?

And will even more people give up all they own in preparation for this “coming day”?

I can’t help but wonder why people follow such characters as Camping. Is it because they are gullible and need to have a strong figure to look up to? Or is it because there is something lacking in their lives?

Whatever the reason may be, my hope and prayer would be that his followers may come to believe that no one knows the day or the hour of the Lord’s return. May his followers also come to know in the fullest way possible the love of the Lord and the grace that He has for all who believe.

We also need to be praying for Harold Camping that he will be touched by God and stop making these spurious predictions about the future.

Of course there is the possibility that Jesus will return on that date, but it won’t be because of Camping’s predictions. It will be because the appointed hour has finally come.

Finally, each of us need to pray for direction in our own lives so that we will not be misled or deceived in any way. And as for Camping’s teachings, may those who follow him see and understand the errors that he has made are harming their walk with the Lord. For Camping is promoting false teaching and his predictions about the future will be wrong again.

About faithfullyhis

My name is Charles Quail and I am a retired Baptist pastor who lives in Dunnville,a small town southeast of Hamilton, Ontario. I also write a weekly column for our local newspaper, The Sachem. It is a column that I have been writing for about eight years. I am married and have two grown daughters. My best buddy was my dog Max, who is now chasing bunny rabbits in sky. I miss him terribly. My reason for wanting to write a blog is friends have told me that this is the next logical step in my writing career. My hope and prayer is that many will be both challenged and blessed by what I write.
